Chinese well-known economic geologist, the academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering Chen Yuchuan has been awarded the honorary life membership of IAGOD, the highest award in international economic geology community, at the 14th IAGOD held in Kunming, China on 22th August.

The honorary life membership of IAGOD was set up in 1960, designed especially for geological scientists in recognition of their great achievements in scientific study in the field of economic geology. Up to now, only two Chinese scientists have been awarded the prize.

Chen Yuchuan has long been engaged in economic geology, geochemistry, regional metallogeny,ore-forming prediction research and mineral exploration. He has been the leader of a  great number of teams to conduct in-depth study on Guangxi Dachang superlarge tin polymetallic deposit and ore zone, and made contributions to the summarization of metallogeny and instructing the work of ore prospecting; he has also jointly put forward a series of concepts of ore forming with the academician Cheng Luqi, and developed regional Metallogenic theory, which has been widely used in guiding ore prospecting; he has been in charge of the non-ferrous mineral exploration organized by mineral resources and geology authorities since “the sixth five year plan”, and in charge of the national gold deposit prospecting work, and made great achievements. He has won successively the special-class prize for National Science and Technology Progress Award, the second prize for National Science and Technology Progress Award for five times, the third prize for National Science and Technology Progress Award, and the third prize for nature and science award. He was also given the honor of middle-aged and young experts with outstanding contributions at the national level in 1986, the Li Siguang geological science and technology workers Award in 1997, the Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award in 2004, and the Prize for outstanding contributor for the field work of science and technology in 2009.
