Top4. Research on the groundwater evolution mechanism and regulation in the North China Plain

Updated :03,05,2014

Researcher Shi J. S. from the Institute of Hydrology and Environmental Geology, together with approximate 100 research workers from over 10 organizations, under the support of the 973 Project, rebuilt the groundwater dynamic field evolution in the North China Plain for the last 60 years, identified the response of groundwater dynamic field to human activities and natural changes, deepened the understanding of heterogeneity of aquifers, the hydrodynamic parameter changes of zones containing hydrone, the water-temperature dynamic response of thick zones containing hydrone and the water release-induced settlement mechanism of deep confined aquifers; analyzed the leaky mechanism by film effect test, conducted carrying capacity on groundwater resources assessment, established critical identification indicators for groundwater crisis and provided regulation proposals for alleviating groundwater crisis in the North China Plain. This significantly improves the overall level of China's research on large basin groundwater systems and offers important technological support for relieving the water resource shortage in the North China Plain.
