Top 10 Technological Advancements of CAGS 2013
Top6. Research and control of water and soil erosion in karst peak-cluster depressions
Researcher Jiang Z.C. with his team from the Institute of Karst Geology in CAGS, under the support of the National Sci-Tech Support Plan, Special Fund for Public Industry and Guangxi Sci-Tech Research project, examined the soil erosion processes, dynamic mechanism and control techniques in the karst regions in Southwest China, and achieved important results. By using field monitoring and isotopy technology, they systematically revealed the difference and reason of soil erosion in different topographical portions and different eco environments in karst peak-cluster depressions, established soil erosion intensity grading criteria and soil erosion regress model suited to karst regions, created a soil conservation pattern and technical specification that integrate biological approaches with engineering actions, effectively improved the eco environment, developed pitaya eco industry in the karst rock desertification context, providing important technical support for comprehensive control of rock desertification and for soil conservation in karst regions in Southwest China, and producing significant social and economic benefit.
