CGS- GA Talk Advances CAGS
Deputy Director General of China Geological Survey (CGS) Mr Wang Yan met with the Geoscience Australia (GA)delegation headed by Dr Andrew Fitz recently in the headquarter of CGS. Energy Resources Counselor of Australian Embassy to China, Mr Ben Charles attended the bilateral talks.
Wang initiated the talk by an introduction of CGS to the visiting delegation. He said that the geological survey institutions of both countries have made highly effective cooperation in the fields of basic geology, resource potential evaluation, hydrogeology, etc. He hoped that both sides would continue their efforts on advancing phase III China-Australia Geological Storage of CO2 Project (CAGS) and explore new cooperation fields. Both sides agreed to incorporate the cooperation program under the framework of MOU for geoscience cooperation between the two parties and conclude relevant cooperation agreement at a proper time.
During the meeting, Hydrogeology and Environmental Geological Survey Center, CGS briefed the delegation on CAGS progress and follow-up plan. Dr. Fitz made an introduction of their plan on Australian significant demonstration project for geological storage of CO2 as well as Geoscience Australia’s progress in terms of storage potential evaluation, project site selection and GHG leakage monitoring, etc.
Representatives of relevant departments in hydrogeology , environment, sci-tech and foreign affairs were present at the meeting.
