Workshop/Training of ASEAN-China Project on IGDP opened

Workshop/Training of ASEAN-China Project on Integrated Geophysical and Geochemical Data Processing (IGDP) was officially opened on 2 March 2016 in Beijing, China. The event was jointly hosted by Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Land and Resources, organized by China Geological Survey (CGS)and ASEAN Secretariat.

There were 22 participants in the workshop/training from ASEAN Member Countries, including Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Burma, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, etc.

To deepen the understanding among each other, program was set for country reports. Introductions were made on the national geological, geochemical, geophysical, and database construction of participants’ own countries. As the host, Chinese experts made systematic introduction on china’s work at the aspects mentioned above. For the upcoming days, Professor JD Fairhead from UK will brief the participants on the geo-data collection, processing and related exploration case studies and IGDP project leader Dr Zhang Minghua and his team will run the training session by presenting the use and application of IGDP software. A visit to Geological Institute of Guangxi Autonomous Region, China and ASEAN- China Center lies also on the agenda as well as a discussion on future 5 years of cooperation for ASEAN member countries.

The training workshop is scheduled to close on 7 March, and achievements were expected to make in terms of forming communication channel, establishing platform for exchanges of opinions and ideas, and creating an opportunity for learning other ASEAN countries' needs regarding geochemical and geophysical technologies and opening a gate to future cooperation.

The training workshop was funded by ACCF, making it the first project ever supported by the fund among all CGS projects.
