Zhong Ziran Met with the Governor of the Northwest Territories of Canada

On Jan 14,President of China Geological Survey Zhong Ziran met with Bob Macleod, the governor of the Northwest Territories of Canada, and his delegation. Both sides conducted in-depth exchanges to strengthen cooperation in the field of mining and reached consensus on relevant issues. The Canadian ambassador to China Guy Saint-Jacques accompanied the meeting.


Zhong Ziran expressed his warm welcome to Bob Macleod and his delegation on behalf of Ministry of Land and Resources. After introducing the detailed analysis of global mining situation, Chinese economic development trends and reform measures in the energy and mineral resources to the guests, he said that China and Canada were both big countries with rich geological and mineral resources, which laid a solid foundation for cooperation, and both had desire to work closely in wider fields and at a higher level. We are willing to enhance mutual understanding, enhance friendship and promote cooperation work with Northwest Territories of Canada. Firstly, Make full use of two Mining Congress platforms to strengthen ties of mining departments and Bureaus in both countries, conduct in-depth exchanges of mining management experiences and support each other’s mining companies to carry out mineral exploration and development, so that Chinese mining companies in Canada would better understand investment environment in Canada and Northwest territories, mining management and industrial policies to promote Chinese mining investment in this region. Secondly, deepen the cooperation in the fields of geo-science and geological survey and give its full play to the basic and leading role. Thirdly, carry out exchanges and training and hope researcher and management personnel to strengthen exchanges and mutual visits. 


Bob Macleod endorsed Zhong Ziran’s proposal. He said that the Northwest Territories were rich with natural resources and the provincial government was increasing its investment in improving infrastructure and actively consulted with native residents to create a better environment for foreign mining investment. He also expressed warm welcome to Chinese enterprises to this region. According to him, from April 1, 2014, the administration and control of public lands, waters and resources had been transferred from Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada to the Government of the Northwest Territories. 


Guy Saint-Jacques said that China was Canada’s important partner and the two countries were highly complementary with smoothly relationship. According to the summit of two leaders, both sides will expand the scale of trade and investment and deepen cooperation in energy and resources. The Northwest provinces are vast in territories with stable investment environment, competitive investment policies and top human resources and Chinese enterprises are warmly welcomed.
