Achievements Obtained by China Geological Survey in 2013
4. Geological survey service capability has been improved in 2013
In 2013, the basic poverty-alleviation geological survey in Wumeng Mountain and the hydrogeological survey in the water-deficient area of Taihang Mountains as well as water finding demonstration projects have been carried out, the deficiency of drinking water have been settled for 800 thousand people, and the potable water problems for another 700 thousand people have been altogether solved. Geo-hazard emergency respond were launched in local areas, and a large number of experts were sent to Tibet, Yunnan, Sichuan and Gansu to settle the major geo-hazard emergency, for example, in the Lushan Earthquake, Sichuan and the "July 9th Torrential Rain" event, experts involved screened more than 5500 potential risks. During the detailed investigation over geo-hazard risks, over 39 thousand geo-hazard points were spotted.
The national agricultural geological survey achievements have been systematically summarized, the land-quality geochemical evaluation pilot projects have been launched in Tianjin, Shanghai and Zhejiang etc., thus helping land management and protection as well as the production of characteristic agricultural products. Geological survey has also been conducted in more than 10 cities like Changsha and Xi'an so as to facilitate city planning, construction of railways, development and utilization of underground space as well as other fundamental support for emergency water supply, to name a few.
Providing services for land and resource work in an active manner. Potential assessment of mineral resources on a national scope has come to a successful conclusion, potential prediction for 25 major ores have been accomplished, and more than 50 thousand areas were determined as high potentials. The outcome evaluation in ore prospecting (Phase I) has been carried out, the "Three Rates" investigation over 22 types of major mineral resources has been accomplished. The "Three Scarce Resources" strategic survey was carried forward; a new round of study on mineral resources security was initiated. The nationwide satellite image interpretation for mining areas was carried on, and the suspected illegal pattern and spots were extracted to be recorded as the remote sensing background data for later lawful intercept and "Mine Recovery" work. Basic information and technical support were provided for the compilation of the territory planning outline, the establishment of the disaster prevention & mitigation system and supervision over the countermeasures against the ground subsidence, global climate change addressing as well as study on the environmental capacity etc.
Strengthening the socialized services of geologic information. The national archive digital service system was established and the Geo-data Services of China Geological Survey was put into service, six strategic specific products for ore-prospecting breakthrough were disclosed, 3317 medium-scale digital geological maps, 26 thousand geologic data catalogs for integrated exploration areas and 76 thousand pieces of important geological borehole information and references were published. The National-level databases listed in the global mineral resources information system has reached 68 in total, 6232 new ore-fields and 500 large or medium scale maps were added to the system, and the service has expanded to more than 500 organizations.
