Achievements

3. New achievements have been made in science and technology and international co-operation further enhanced

Updated :04,09,2014

In 2013, 61 provincial-level awards have been obtained, and 113 patents concerning geology have been granted. We were granted with 13 Major Technology Projects and 147 projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the published papers totaled 2395 in number, among which the SCI and EI papers hit 360, indicating a considerable increase in contrast with the previous years.

A number of original achievements have been made in fundamental research. The study on Precambrian stratum has modified the lower boundary age of Changchengian System to be 1.65 billion years rather than 1.8 billion. Some new species of dinosaur like Multituberculata, Oviraptorosauria and Sauropterygia were discovered for the first time in Liaoning, Jiangxi, Henan and Yunnan provinces. Qingsong mine, a new superhigh pressure mineral, was discovered. The new version China Formation Catalog & its Specification as well as the 1:5,000,000 International Geological Map of Asia have been published. Large-sized wind tunnel test and other advanced approaches were adopted to reveal what lead to the high-velocity long-distance landslide disaster.

New progress has been made in the development and demonstration of prospecting technology Pilot production of UAV for airborne geophysical exploration succeeded, and a large batch of equipments and instruments with independent intellectual property rights have been developed, multi-element quick check has been realized in field rock and mineral analysis.  A batch of new techniques has been popularized to Qinghai, Tibet, Heilongjiang and other provinces and regions and effectively solved the technical problems in prospecting.

14 contracts have been signed with geologic institutions in Canada and other nine countries or regions, the cooperative nations have increased to 45 in total. Cooperative survey and study chiefly on geologic background of the global important metallogenic belts and the geochemical mapping have been conducted in Russia, Mongolia, Zambia, Laos, Argentina and other 11 countries. The first Joint Scientific Meeting of Geological Society of China and Geological Society of America, Cross-border Geological Correlation among ASEAN Countries and China, Local Ground Waterflow Theory as well as other international seminars have been successfully organized and held in China. Yin Yueping was elected chairman of the International Consortium on Landslides; Mao Jingwen was elected director of the International Federation of Societies of Economic Geologists; Hou Zengqian was elected director of the Society for Geology Applied to Mineral Deposits; Dong Shuwen was elected the Honorary Member of the Geological Society of America, the German Scientist Prof. Jan Harff, who has been in long-term cooperation with our bureau, gained the International Cooperation Award in Science and Technology of China.
